Successful Demonstration in Ghana            Sun 24 Apr 05

About two hours drive into the jungle from Tarkwa we conducted the first field demonstration in Ghana. The trip was arranged by the CSIR South Africa who have an interest in promoting small scale mining in Africa. The CSIR involvement was to verify the efficiency of ecologics small scale mining equipment and its suitability for the task.

This first site is a deep hole dug down to and old river bed which contained alluvial gold. The equipment was quickly set up and with a little guidance the local miners set to work closely watched by Jeannette (CSIR) who was determined that the soil samples she collected were a true representation of the conditions.

Panning is the final moment of truth in mining and Jeannette was making sure it wasn't tampered with.

The tailings from processing also reveal a lot and we devised a way of catching them to check what gold reported to the tailings. This is a measure of the efficiency of the concentrator. Carl a mechanical engineer from CSIR had fitted a data capture device to the pump and was keeping tabs on that aspect of the tests.

The test schedule was extensive and took all day to complete to everyone's satisfaction. Given the high temperature and humidity down the hole, the showers that evening were a popular first stop.
